"Clothes or Skin?"
"Clothes or Skin?"
Skin bleaching as because a norm in today’s society,
a plague that affects adults and especially teenagers. There are many factors
that influence people to become bleachers and the major contributor is mental slavery,
Jamaican gained Independence August, 6 1962, However, are we really free, from
mental slavery? “No” we need to elaborate in our mind from shackles and chains.
“Yes!” our minds are too easily persuaded because we are still searching for
our identity. “Oh Yes” slavery, colonization and interlapping as made us lose
our identification. Rastafarian and other Pan- African movements were formed to
keep traditional custom's, rituals and ideals from going extinct because they
yearn for the mother land which is Africa.
As a
result of mental slavery, we have lost pride in our race culture and ethnicity,
which results in skin bleaching as a means of atonement. We are still searching
for acceptance. In most Caribbean Countries, males have a tendency to chase
light complexion skin ladies. "Hey browning". What about our dark skin
women aren’t they beautiful and wonderfully made? Therefore, we need to focus on our self-esteem,
it's imperative that we practice self-care, love ourselves in spite of being
black, brown, white and any ethnicity or race in any given society.
Another reason why people bleach because
they hate the melanin in their skin, to be acknowledge by society not realizing
the negative effects of bleaching. As a result of skin bleaching, you can get
Mercury poison, Dermatitis, Nephrotic syndrome and other side effects... And
others are so dangerous they are band in other countries.
Some skin
bleaching products has positive effects and is said, to help with some skin
illness and dark spots and aging. moreover, the negative effects are like
smoking and ignoring the risks and because we addict.
Bleaching makes so
many people think they are beautiful but is the expense worth your life? Yes, skin diseases, kidney failure, liver
diseases and other future complications, most people bleach for fun and excitement,
just to post and social media to accumulate more views and not realizing they
have become another victim to social media.
Peer pressure plays a vital role in skin bleaching among teenagers, yes, we are inflicted by role models and friends, yes, because a friend can change our mind and thoughts especially if they are negative influence. Teenagers listen more to each other and not guardians because that's our rebellious faze and something our actions destroy, kill and even make us ended up caged like birds from society.
Entertainer's music and social media influence
our mind towards bleaching, our artists will do anything for fame, money and to
become the most trending topic; singing song to destroy the young generation is
simple. Tell them to bleach and the product used to remove a few layers of your
skins and you eventually become a victim to your own lust for acceptance and
registration.
